A new landmark is set to appear in South Australia’s Barossa in 2022. The 12-storey luxury hotel will be built at the Seppeltsfield winery, an iconic destination in the region.
The structure, titled Oscar Seppeltsfield, will house around 70 rooms, including suites and penthouses, each with a private balcony. Guests can enjoy a sky bar on the top level featuring 360-degree views of the stunning surrounds, a wellness day spa, and a world-class restaurant complete with a private dining room and boardroom.
Seppeltsfield owner and executive chairman, Warren Randall believes that Oscar will be the piece to complete the grand vision of Seppeltsfield being the most desirable epicurean destination for tourists worldwide. “We wanted to create a national icon for South Australia – a Sydney Opera House of the Barossa,” he says. “The addition of this luxury hotel will elevate Seppeltsfield to one of the top five vineyards in the world and, in turn, lift Australia’s international wine reputation.”
Importantly, this project will create more than 700 additional employment opportunities for the region and drive tourism growth from both local and international visitors. Research by the South Australian Tourism Commission identified that one of the biggest gaps in this market is luxury accommodation options, with only 28 of the current 161 facilities rated over four stars.
South Australian Premier Steven Marshall praised the endeavour. “I am very excited about the potential for tourism in the Barossa and across regional South Australia,” he says. “This type of investment in the region will be great.”
It is anticipated that Oscar Seppeltsfield will drive visitation to the state and turn over $86 million in the first five years. Construction is scheduled to be complete in early 2022.
