Our Review
What began in ’82 as a retirement project for the late architect Bruce Tomlinson has evolved over the decades into one of Margaret River’s most enduring wineries. At its heart lies the striking winery and cellar door, originally designed and constructed by Bruce; a recent renovation allows the cellar door to offer unfettered views of the surrounding Wilyabrup hills through its large bay windows. Today, Lenton Brae is owned by the Jackson family, who took over as sole owners in ’20, and Vanessa Carson leads the winemaking. There’s a focus on Bordeaux varieties including cabernet sauvignon, merlot, semillon and sauvignon blanc, plus chardonnay and pinot blanc (a first for the region) and alt-varieties such as touriga nacional and sangiovese. The former mostly end up in the more premium Wilyabrup and Estate ranges, the latter in the contemporary In Good Hands range. -ANNA WEBSTER
