Goulburn Terrace

Dr Mike Boudry and Greta Moon have established their vineyard on the west bank of the Goulburn River, 8km south of Lake Nagambie. Planting began in 1993: 2.2ha of chardonnay on the alluvial soils (10 000 years old, adjacent to the river), and 2.3ha of cabernet sauvignon on a gravelly rise based on 400-million-year-old Devonian rocks; 1.3ha of shiraz and 1.1ha of marsanne followed later. The wines are made in small volumes, with open fermentation and hand-plunging of the reds; all are basket-pressed. Exports to Canada and Japan. -JAMES HALLIDAY
