Wild Duck Creek Estate

Victoria | Heathcote

Our Review

The 1st release of Wild Duck Creek Estate (WDCE) from the 1991 vintage marked the end of 12 years of effort by David and Diana Anderson. They began planting the 4.5ha vineyard in 1980, made their 1st tiny quantities of wine in ’86, the 1st commercial quantities of wine in ’91, and built their winery and cellar door facility in ’93. After growing up at the Heathcote vineyard, it wouldn’t be long before son Liam took over winemaking responsibilities. Liam is also incredibly passionate about lessoning any environmental impact when farming the site and the winery and vineyards employ 100% renewable energy. While the wines are made to a style, and those who have followed WDCE can attest, Liam is conscious of rising alcohol levels, and his philosophy is to make the best wines, representative of the site and vintage. The original homestead is currently under renovations and will house a new cellar door and education centre. -JAMES HALLIDAY
