Mount Terrible

Victoria | Central Victoria Zone

Our Review

John Eason and wife Janene Ridley began the long, slow (and at times very painful) business of establishing their vineyard just north of Mt Terrible in '92 – hence the choice of name. In '01, they planted 2ha of pinot noir on a gently sloping, north-facing river terrace adjacent to the Jamieson River. DIY trials persuaded John to have the first commercial vintage in ’06 contract-made. He has since made the wines himself in a fireproof winery built on top of an underground wine cellar. John has a sense of humour second to none, but must wonder what he has done to provoke the weather gods, alternating in their provision of fire, storm and tempest. Subsequent vintages have provided some well-earned relief. -JAMES HALLIDAY
