Merriworth

Tasmania | Southern Tasmania | Paredarerme

Our Review

It was their love of pinot noir that lured Mark McNamara and Kirralee Hatch to Tasmania after several years studying viticulture and winemaking on the Australian mainland. In '17 they purchased the 2ha Third Child vineyard and renamed it Merriworth. Planted by local John Skinner in '01 on a hillside overlooking the Jordan River at Tea Tree in the Coal River Valley, the site is home to 9 clones of pinot noir and 3 of riesling, planted on river flats of cracking clay soil and shallow, eroded slopes over dolerite rock. The brand is currently devoted exclusively to riesling and pinot noir from this site. -TYSON STELZER
