Our Review
In ’76 Gerald and Sue Ellis picked the first grapes from their large Glenora property at the top end of the Derwent River. There have been 4 major expansions since, a 10ha planting of pinot noir, chardonnay, syrah and gamay in ’16, lifting the total to 52ha, the major part as fully mature vines. Meadowbank supplies grapes to 6 or so small wineries and also leases 32ha to Accolade. Peter Dredge, having been closely associated with the vineyard for 6 years, formed a partnership with the Ellis family (Gerald, Sue, daughter Mardi and her husband, Alex Deane) to relaunch Meadowbank. The wines are made by Peter at his contract winemaking facility from the portion of vineyard set aside for the Meadowbank wines. -JAMES HALLIDAY
