Our Review
The genesis of Bay of Fires dates back to ’94, when Hardys purchased its first Tasmanian grapes to make sparkling wines, which led to the establishment of House of Arras. The next stage was the inclusion of various parcels of chardonnay from Tasmania in the ’98 Eileen Hardy, then the development in ’01 of the Bay of Fires brand. Bay of Fires is today owned by Accolade Wines, although there have been recent changes. In late ’23, Accolade sold its share in House of Arras to Handpicked Wines, along with the Bay of Fires cellar door and winery plus 24ha of top Tasmanian vineyards. The Bay of Fires brand – known for NV sparklings alongside impressive riesling, sauvignon blanc, pinot gris, chardonnay and pinot noir – remained with Accolade, and winemaker Stewart Byrne makes the wines in the same way and same winery he always has.
