Our Review
Mitolo had a meteoric rise when Frank Mitolo decided to turn a winemaking hobby into a business. In '00, he took the plunge into the commercial end, inviting Ben Glaetzer to make the wines, which he did up until ’20. In ’21, Luke Mallaby (ex-Rosemount Estate) joined as senior winemaker. Mitolo produces a range of varietals across both its approachable, easy-drinking Jester range and its premium single-vineyard wines. Although reds – particularly shiraz, grenache and cabernet sauvignon – have historically dominated, whites are now well represented. As well as the addition of a 3-million-dollar tasting room, restaurant and event space, which opened in ’17, recent years have seen Mitolo lean further into its Italian heritage, with sangiovese and nero d’Avola proving particularly successful. -JAMES HALLIDAY
