Irvine

South Australia | Eden Valley

Our Review

When James (Jim) Irvine established his eponymous winery in ’83, he chose to produce merlot from the Eden Valley. He was a much-in-demand consultant, bobbing up in all sorts of places. Yet when he decided to sell the business in ’14, its potential was greatly increased with the investment of the purchasing Wade and Miles families. Henry Winter Miles had planted 0.8ha of shiraz in 1867 and successive generations had added to the vineyard portfolio from 1967, both acquiring existing vineyards and planting others. Henry’s great-grandson Peter Miles and partner John Wade collectively own 160ha spread through the Barossa and Eden valleys, although only 140ha fall within the Irvine partnership. -JAMES HALLIDAY
