Vinya Vella

South Australia | Barossa Valley | Peramangk and Ngadjuri

Our Review

Vinya Vella is a Catalan phrase for ‘old vine’, and I can think of no better custodian for this 6ha slice of Vine Vale born, pre-1900 planted grenache (and a smattering of mataro) than rockstar viticulturist Dylan Grigg. Afterall, he does hold a PhD in grapevine age and is a sought-after consultant around the world. The adage that great wine starts in the vineyard rings true here and the winemaking is simpatico with place and grape, capturing the brightness, buoyancy and detail of grenache from this Barossan subregion, which is rightly famous for the variety. -DAVE BROOKES
