Hare's Chase

South Australia | Barossa Valley | Njadgerri Country

Our Review

Established in the '50s, Hare’s Chase has had a few owners since; notably Peter Taylor (ex-Penfolds) and Mike de la Haye, who purchased the business in '97. Today, it’s backed by Aulian Wine Group, and winemaker Matt Reynolds (also Schubert Estate, see separate listing), who joined from Teusner in '20 (prior to that he was at Kellermeister and Kay Brothers), calls the shots. Most of Hare’s Chase wines are made with fruit grown in the red soils of the estate’s 14ha vineyard in the Marananga Valley, although fruit is occasionally sourced from elsewhere in the Barossa. The range is exclusively red wines (including a rosé) which Matt crafts in a contemporary yet typically Barossan style. Shiraz is the star and accounts for most of the vineyard’s plantings, although there are recent plantings of mataro, grenache, cinsault and aglianico. -ANNA WEBSTER
