Arila Gardens

South Australia | Barossa Valley

Our Review

Adam and Marie Clay purchased 8ha in Moppa (Arila Gardens) in '18, after overseas harvests and a decade as a winemaker at Penfolds in the Barossa. Arila, an Indigenous word for ‘sand, land and earth’, is split into 3 distinct terroirs: Sand Garden, Quartz Garden and Ironstone Garden, with grenache vines planted in 1900 and shiraz in the '40s. The Gardens of Moppa wines are regional expressions, blended across the estate vineyards. The Garden Selection wines are crafted from the best individual rows and sections of each terroir, exploring the nuance of site. These are wines that sing clearly of their subregional soils, have snappy packaging and a very bright future. -DAVE BROOKES
