Our Review
The jewel in Martinborough's crown, Kusuda, is named after founder and winemaker Hiroyuki Kusuda, who immigrated to New Zealand in 2001 after realising his true passion wasn't law, but winemaking. With the support of local winemaker Kai Schubert (Schubert Wines), Hiroyuki secured a long-term lease of an established vineyard in Martinborough. He made his first vintage the following year. Today, Kusuda has attained a well-deserved cult following. Pinot noir is the standout for its incredible intensity, structure and perfume, with riesling following closely behind. The wines are made in minuscule quantities, making them treasured by wine lovers worldwide. -KATRINA BUTLER
