The Halliday Wine Companion Awards celebrate the best wines in Australia. Below you'll find Australia's top pinot gris and grigio wines, along with the wine ratings awarded by the Tasting Team.
Once upon a time it might have seemed unimaginable that the pinot gris/grigio category would produce so many wines with scores of 95 or above. This category has come a long way. The Mornington Peninsula continues to shine, not only producing the winner but also the greatest number of top examples. Pinot gris is no longer merely a refreshing, somewhat neutral, white wine; you can expect (a lot) more than that.
2025 Best Pinot Gris & Pinot Grigio of the Year in Australia
Quealy Winemakers Feri Maris Single Block Pinot Grigio 2023,
Mornington Peninsula
96 points (PD*) | Price when tasted $40

Dry grown estate fruit, also certified organic, from three small blocks; whole-bunch pressed, 70 per cent to stainless steel and the remainder to hogsheads, 50 per cent new, with wild fermentation and left on lees. Lots of florals from lime blossom to ginger flowers with an abundance of flavours: stone fruit, lemon-lime, fresh pears doused in powdered ginger. It’s savoury through and through, with a light layering of creamy lees and light acidity gently taking this to a long finish. – Jane Faulkner
