Australian sparkling wine has never been so good. And that's true when it comes to all of its forms.
Australian producers craft world-class sparkling wines in a huge range of different colours and styles – depending on the grape variety used, the sugar level (dry, semi-dry or sweet), winemaking techniques, whether it's vintage, multi-vintage or non-vintage and more. Sparkling whites, for example, are known for citrus, toast, floral and nutty characteristics, whereas sparkling reds tend to elicit flavours in the red and black-fruited spectrum – sweet plum, cherry, prunes and the like.
In Australia, sparkling wine production thrives in cooler-climate regions, especially where sparkling's most commonly used base grapes – chardonnay and pinot noir – can be found. As such, Tasmania and the Yarra Valley are the obvious picks, with the Grampians, Adelaide Hills, King Valley, Orange, Nagambie Lakes and Pyrenees following suit.
But with so many new highly rated Australian sparkling wines hitting the shelves each year, picking just a few to buy can be tough. That’s why we've put together this concise list of nine bottles of fizz worth buying – including prosecco, sparkling rosé, blanc de blancs and sparkling shiraz.
Priced between $25 and $80, there’s also a wine for any budget. Read on to find each of their tasting notes as well as links to buying these wines right now.

Swift Limited Edition Sparkling Rosé 2017
Sparkling | OrangeA collaboration between Jumbled and Emmanate Creative made from 65/30/5% chardonnay/pinot noir/pinot meunier. Disgorged in October '23 and on its lees for 72 months. A low dosage of 3.5g/L. The palest rose gold hue in the glass. Mirabelle plums, Rainier cherries and lilly pilly fruit. There are frangipani and freesia blossoms. A hint of orange blossom honey and some beeswax. Acidity sweeps through and the palate is left quite dry and sparklingly clean. Some almond and cranberry nougat and a smattering of candlenut creaminess on the finish. A recurring echo of alpine strawberry keeps the wine journeying on. Impressive; a mark of a very expressive vintage under caring and precise hands. -
Box Grove Vineyard
Prosecco 2024
Sparkling | Nagambie LakesA top prosecco is increasingly hard to find, but here's one. Intense bubbly action introduces a non-stop effervescence complemented by racy acidity and a flavour that highlights the grape's zesty citrus appeal. Grapefruit, lemon zest, quince, apple and pear bring their A Game to the glass – so fresh and vital – complemented by some middle-palate creaminess which raises the idea of a food partnership. Solo or with food, it's a winner. -
Clover Hill
Blanc de Blancs Multi-Vintage Non Vintage
Sparkling | TasmaniaA multi-vintage, 100% chardonnay. Pale straw in the glass with an energetic bead and mousse. Inviting aromas of baked apple, soft spice, sea spray, white flowers, freshly baked pastries, grilled nuts, shortbread and stone. Initially expansive on the palate, with a swell of apple and citrus. The biscuit tones flow in on the mid-palate and that mineral-laden acid line reigns everything in, gathering pace and form before sailing to the end point with focus and drive. -
Grampians Estate
Rutherford Sparkling Shiraz 2021
Sparkling | GrampiansRutherford honours the producers' young son, who tragically died too young. The sparkling shiraz offers a statement about a Grampians tradition and how time doesn't stand still. It is beautifully composed, fresh, lively, dry and nicely spiced, a different, modern interpretation of the traditional style. Black cherry, blueberry, earth and spice come lifted with hints of pepper and chocolate. Easy to love now but further ageing will build complexity. -
Clover Hill
Exceptionnelle Multi-Vintage Non Vintage
Sparkling | TasmaniaA multi-vintage blend of 59/35/6% chardonnay/pinot noir/pinot meunier. A light blush in the glass with a fine, energetic bead and mousse. Aromas of redcurrant, red apple, grapefruit and raspberry with hints of crushed sea shell, white flowers, almond paste, crushed stone and ozone. Tight and bright on the palate with a stony, savoury aspect and a long, dry finish. -
Helen & Joey Estate
Re'em Blanc de Blanc Chardonnay 2019
Sparkling | Yarra Valley100% chardonnay aged for 30 months on lees. An attractive, bright green gold. Discreet, complex aromas of candied lemon, honeycomb and freshly baked goods. The palate is chalky, tightly wound and lemony, finishing with bright acidity. A crisp, aperitif style that I can see filling out nicely over the next 4–6 years. -
Russell & Suitor
Baila con Toro Pinot Noir Chardonnay 2022
Sparkling | Tasmania50/50% pinot noir/chardonnay produced in the traditional method. Light straw with a fine, energetic bead and mousse. Notes of apple, redcurrant and citrus fruits with hints of clover blossom, sea spray, crushed riverstone, almond paste, cream and apple turnover. Pulsing saline acidity drives the wine along nicely. Crisp and stony dry on the palate with an appley flourish as it fades. -
De Bortoli
Este Cuvée Non Vintage
Sparkling | Yarra ValleyA blend of 73/14/7/6% chardonnay/pinot noir/pinot blanc/pinot meunier. 30% reserve wines and 6g/L dosage. Like its predecessors, the current Este Cuvée over-delivers at its modest price point. Aromas of baked apple, orange blossom and light pastry scents carry through on the gently creamy, flavoursome and well-balanced palate. -
Highland Heritage
Patrono Cuvée Brut Méthode Traditionnelle 2019
Sparkling | Orange42 months of extended lees ageing. Showing some chamomile, lemon curd, white peach and baked apples. Lees ageing plays a big part of the complexity of this wine, with brioche, caramelised pastries and baked pear. It's moving into some treacle bitterness and orange oil, too. Acidity rises and dips with some powdery grip on the finish. A savoury and toasty wine.
