Each year, the Halliday Wine Companion Awards recognise the best of the best from across the industry. First staged in 2013, the exclusive event has always been held over a degustation dinner, paired with a selection of the year’s finest wines. This year, however, the event is open to everyone, with the announcements set to be broadcast on the evening of Wednesday, August 5, via winecompanion.com.au
The awards are held on the eve of the launch of the annual Halliday Wine Companion, with this year’s 2021 guide due to release on Thursday, August 6. The book is the culmination of many months spent tasting, reviewing, compiling and editing more than 9000 tasting notes, which James Halliday completes with the assistance of his esteemed tasting panel. The team comprises Campbell Mattinson, Jane Faulkner, Jeni Port, Ned Goodwin, MW, and Steven Creber.
The Halliday Wine Companion Awards 2021, presented by Vintage Cellars, will announce six major trophies – the year’s best winery, wine, winemaker, new winery, best value winery and “dark horse” winery. In addition, 16 wines will be named the winner of their varietal categories, from sparkling and semillon to shiraz and fortified, and everything in between.
To view the broadcast on the evening of August 5, simply ensure you’re signed up to the Halliday Wine Companion newsletter and keep an eye out for all details. In the meantime, read up on the Halliday Wine Companion Awards and get to know the previous winners here.
